Is it possible to glide like Batman from a low vantage point?

In Batman: Arkham City, Batman is able to base jump very low (light poles, the g? Rgolas ceiling, etc..) But, is it this possible in reality? Pens? people need to base jump from high altitudes such as cliffs, tall buildings or in order to get some momentum. ? There is sufficient momentum to base someone jumping off a light pole?
